I don't think knowing the landscape has much long-term value
It doesn't take but a couple of years of recruiting, at most, to know the landscape. What matters is actually being able to successfully sell the program, to go execute on recruiting. The slide at the end of Beamer's career was very much tied to a fall-off in recruiting. Beamer and staff would've known the area better than anyone, but they started losing the ability to actually close the deal on recruits of similar talent level to players 10-15 years prior.
